“That one” Evan was pointing at a Birthday cake in the shape of a caterpillar in the bakery aisle of Morrison’s.
We had already visited Booths,COOP and Sainsbury’s on our search
This year reaching double figures he was determined to try something different.
For the last 4 years he has chosen the same football cake although has never eaten any of it.
Having carefully placed the ’Cute Caterpillar cake’ in the basket he very proudly exclaimed ” right, now for the party food”
Evan choose some Quavers, mini cheddar’s and French fries.
He also decided upon a packet of Oreos to be on the safe side.
In the party section he found some pirate themed paper plates and happily popped a pack in the basket.
Two ‘Birthday Boy’ banners and 30 assorted balloons later he was done.
At home I blew up the balloons, put up the banners and placed 10 candles in the cake.
I opened the crisps and carefully placed them on the red shiny pirate plates.
Evan came in to inspect the party preparations..he was delighted.
I lit the candles,we then very, very quietly sang “Happy Birthday”
Grandma and I each wadded through a large pirate plateful of crisps.
The dog sat up to the table and ate chocolate cake.
Evan decorated Grandma with streamers.
Then like every Sunday we played backgammon.
According to Evan it was the best party he had ever been to….
and that is all that matters.
